Criteria | Candidate will have the personal qualities and depth of commitment characteristic of the exceptional safety officer. Must have successfully completed their first year of the program with a minimum 2.50 GPA. Recipients within Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK’s Summit College are not to be receiving any form of financial aid other than this award from Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK.
First consideration is given to children of current full- or part-time (voluntary) members of the fire and police departments within Summit County or the Summit County Sheriff’s Department who meet the established criteria. In the event none of the candidates is a son or daughter of a member of the safety forces, the award will be presented to the person(s) best qualified.
A scholarship committee established by each of the academic programs, in cooperation with the University’s financial aid program, reviews applications and selects recipients.

Criteria | Candidate must be a criminal justice major, of sophomore standing, with a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA and currently is working full or part-time in a youth-related criminal justice field.
The endowed scholarship provides tuition assistance from contributions made by corporations, community groups, individuals, and the Kannel family. Selection of the recipient is to be determined by the criminal justice faculty in consultation with the William P. Kannel family or its designee.

The recipient is selected by the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences Social Science Department, in cooperation with the office of Student Financial Aid.
