When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Flickinger, Ruth Irwin Career Internship for English
Mrs. Ruth Irwin Flickinger counts both Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK and The Â鶹ÊÓƵAPKBeacon Journal as her alma maters. In the 1930s, the income earned at her job as a cub reporter allowed her to attend Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK, where she achieved a bachelor of arts degree. Her beginnings as a journalist led her into a lifetime career as a writer. After graduating from the University, she wrote as a "ghost author" for the popular Little Big Books published by Saalfield Publishers of Akron. As a wife and mother, she continued to publish freelance stories in publications, including Highlights for Children and Jack and Jill. She also continued to write for Saalfield Publishers. Mrs. Irwin Flickinger established The Ruth Irwin Flickinger Career Internship for English in gratitude for the education she received at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK and the newspaper job that made it possible for her to attend. The Ruth Irwin Flickinger Career Internship for English was established to assist an upperclassman pursuing a career in print media who is writing for the Â鶹ÊÓƵAPKBeacon Journal.
